5 places that serve the perfect cremaet in Valencia

1) Bar Restaurante Rojas Clemente

Almuerzo usually ends on a cremaet: a liqueur coffee made with rum, sugar, lemon and cinnamon. The ingredients are set alight before an espresso is pulled over the top. Fancy one? Start with Bar Restaurante Rojas Clemente. The barista makes lemony cremaets with a whisper of alcohol.

2) Bar Congo

Óscar Casasnovas and Pepa Gil have sprinkled their hospitality magic on this historic bar, scrubbing it up without losing its character. On the terrace old fellas drink beers in wooden safari chairs, while indoors red leather banquette seats lend a 1950s feel. Cremaets are made unhurriedly, and to a tee.

3) La Chata Ultramarinos

Cremaet is nice, but cremaet XXL is nicer. Find it at the Russafa branch of La Chata, a small group of delis stocked with goodies like Cantabrian boquerones and local organic wine. At their deli-bar on Literat Azorín the cremaet requires twice as much rum as usual (around four shots), ice cream and a chocolate cookie on top.

4) Restaurante Espinosa

This polished, popular restaurant is run by the second generation of the Carrilero family, considered almuerzo kingpins. Ingredients bought that morning fill the counter. Whatever your bocadillo choice, don’t miss out on a crisp, clean cremaet, topped with silky crema and coffee beans.

5) La Cantina

Hidden from street view, La Cantina looks at traditional cuisine from a modern perspective. People come for the affordable almuerzos overlooking the lush allotment where they grow beans, pumpkins and lemons. The chivito with runny eggs and stewed beef is a must. Finish with a round of perfectly prepared cremaets.
