5 festivals you can't afford to miss in Vienna

The Wiener Festwochen started out in the fifties and today is the most important multidisciplinary art festival in town combining music theatre, theatre, fine arts, performance, dance, music, installation art and more and more debate and participation in recent years. All about jazz and what a variety there is to take in. This summer festival, which is organised in June/July, covers so many different types of music including classical jazz, Afro-Cuban stars, big bands, singer-songwriters. There’s bound to be a concert that you’ll never forget.

Viennale is Vienna’s exciting film festival, taking place every autumn. After the sudden death of Hans Hurch, who was the festival’s director for several years, Eva Sangiorgi from Italy will help the festival navigate to new times. She has worked and lived in Mexico for the past 15 years. The festival has always had a very international spirit and will continue to do so in the future.

If you love modern, experimental music, then Wien Modern is the festival for you. It is held in October and November every year and the best musicians, including the Wiener Symphoniker, the Wiener Philharmoniker and the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester, love to take a risk here.
