The 5 best places to sleep on a small budget in Vienna
1) 25hours hotel
The slogan of this place is ‘We are all mad here’. Come as you are. Essentially this is an informal, relaxed place full of young people. The hotel is very open, inviting a young crowd to the rooftop bar, which often has DJs and dancing. Cheap drinks, with rooms starting from 100 euro.
2) Wombats City Hostel
There are two wombats in Vienna. We prefer The Lounge near Westbahnhof, so you are near public transport and Vienna’s largest shopping street, the Mariahilfer Strasse. If you are travelling alone, this is the perfect place to stay. You’ll soon get to know somebody here. A good place to socialise.

3) Wien Myrthengasse
What was travelling like before Airbnb? The Österreichischer Jugendherbergsverband is a member of Hostelling International, the biggest nonprofit organisation for cheap accommodation, with 60 hostels in Austria. Myrthengasse is one of them. If you want to fight gentrification, then book at their places.
4) Westend City Hostel
This is the right place for the young and anybody who feels young. There’s no difference. They have singles, doubles and family rooms. You can also book as a group. The hostel is located near Mariahilfer Strasse. The staff is very friendly and international: from Poland, Iran, Turkey, Armenia and several other countries.
5) Schlossherberge Wien
Schlossherberge means Palace Hostel – which seems like a contradiction. But you’ll find that they deliver on their promise. The hostel is located on beautiful Wilhelminenberg, overlooking the whole quarter, in a park and is very eco-friendly. Starting at 25 euro a night for a double room, this is also a good option for families.
