The 5 best terraces for sitting in the sun in Brussels

Once temperatures start to rise, Belgians flock to their café terraces en masse to soak up as much sun as possible. Luckily, Brussels has plenty of options for those who love to have an al fresco drink in a cosy setting.

1) Au Soleil

This corner bar has kept the name and advertising signs from the days when it was a tailor’s shop. It is now a fashionably bar cafe in a pedestrianised street with a generous supply of folding metal tables and chairs to benefit from the sunny location.

2) La Fabrique en ville

Here is one of the loveliest terraces in the city. It belongs to L’Orangerie, a whitewashed building that laid abandoned and forgotten in the Egmont Park for many years. It is an attractive restaurant with a large outdoor terrace where you can sit under ancient trees in the dappled shade.

3) Karsmakers

Jyrki Karsmakers’ coffee bar serves excellent espresso coffee in a bright modern interior opposite the European Parliament. The back room is especially appealing, with its big pine table, comfortable armchairs, coat hooks and toy boxes. The shady back garden is one of the most idyllic outdoor spots in the European Quarter.
