Lighthouses for if you get lost in Holland
1) Het Hoge Licht
As a result of the increase in ships that called at Rotterdam, better coastal lighting was required near Hoek van Holland in the late 19th century. The 21-metre tall red lighthouse, called Het Hoge Licht, was built at the start of the Nieuwe Waterweg. Nowadays this is a museum about coastal lights, with displays such as historic lighthouse lights and navigation equipment. Open from May till September on every first and third Sunday afternoon of the month. Or call for an appointment.
