Boat trips to feel the wind in your hair in Holland
1) A boat trip through the port of Rotterdam
The second Maasvlakte, the most recent expansion of Rotterdam’s port, is easily explored by boat. The Fast Ferry (see ret.nl) from Hoek van Holland drops port workers oat various stops in the port area. But if you really want to get to know the port better, then take the boat with an audio guide from the FutureLand Maasvlakte Museum. En route, you will see ships that are as tall as the Empire State Building, that can transport up to 20.000 containers. You will only realise how big they really are, however, when you sail past them. You can often spot seals here too. On very windy days, a bus tour is a better alternative. Remember to bring some form of ID as the bus also passes through privately-owned sites.
