This is by far the city’s most impressive cobblestone work. The gigantic mosaic on the footsteps of the Padrão dos Descobrimentos depicts a map of the world engulfed by an oversized compass that shows the routes of the Portuguese sea explorers. You will need to look down at it from the top of the monument to grasp its beauty.
