1) Praia Da Luz
Portuenses love nothing more than hanging out at the beach bars. This long-time favourite is right on the beach and it has a big outdoor lounge area. The service can be a bit hit-and-miss but the magnificent sunsets with a drink in hand make it worth it. On summer nights there’s often a party vibe with guest DJs.
2) Aduela
This local favourite is popular for its charming little plaza-type terrace. It’s a great place to hang out, be it day or night, and it’s always packed in the evenings with a buzzing yet relaxed atmosphere. There’s a great selection of wine, beer and small dishes at very reasonable prices.

3) Base
Base is one big outdoor terrace, set in a fantastic position right in the heart of Porto. It’s located on the grassy hilltop of Jardim das Oliveiras, surrounded by historical buildings and monuments, including a glorious view of Torre dos Clérigos. There are DJs, and plenty of bean bag chairs and corners to chill in.
4) Rota do Chá
Set in a gorgeous 19th-century town house, this teahouse was one of the first arty spaces to open in the now trendy Miguel Bombarda neighbourhood. There’s an extensive choice of infusions from all over the globe, homemade cakes, eastern vibes and a secluded spacious garden. A great place for a break at any time of the day. The staff won’t be in a rush either.
5) KUG
Kitchen & Urban Garden – as its name suggests – is set in a huge hidden garden in the heart of Porto and has a luminous atmosphere. The menu was created by Michelin-starred chef Rui Paula and offers an array of comforting dishes to enjoy at any time of the day.
