5 places to find the best Spanish produce in Valencia
1) Simple
With its burgundy striped awning and displays of dried cotton and wicker baskets, Simple is more like a lifestyle shop than a food store, but their compact selection of Spanish-made produce is worth a gander. Sweets in delicately decorated tins, salt handmade in Ibiza and chocolate sardines are too pretty to be eaten.
2) Flor de Cynara
The food from Extremadura, a western region of Spain bordering Portugal, doesn’t get as much fame as it should. It’s something that Shira de Torres (Cáceres) and Javier Vila (Valencia) want to change. Visit their deli and pick up extra virgin olive oil infused with truffle, dried figs from Almoharín and small-batch artisanal honey.

3) The Espanista
Daniel Martínez combines his love of tradition, food and art in his three shops. Excellent wine, vermouth, olive oil and locally made screen prints are here in abundance. Don’t miss the mini library, with brilliant coffee table reads like the picture guide to houses in Cabanyal.
4) Original CV
Based opposite Mercat Central, Original CV crams antique pharmacy shelves with locally produced products. Gin flavoured with Valencian clementines by Fernandez Pons, Orange blossom-scented candles and black truffle oil made with Arbequina olives are among the goodies.
5) Lembutic
Locals come to this store to stock up their pantry with extra special ingredients, like raw honey, fancy tinned fish (octopus in olive oil from the north of Spain or pickled Galician mussels) and stinky blue goat’s cheese. Can’t wait’till you’re home? They will open andserve any product on the upturned wine barrels outside.
