Underground secrets in Nostalgic London
1) Crystal Palace Subway
Built as an entrance to the grand Crystal Palace, this ornate Victorian subway is a real subterranean stunner. The abandoned space is made up of an elegantly vaulted ceiling and pillars built out of orange and white bricks. Since the Crystal Palace burned down in the 1930s and the railway line closed, it’s not seen much action but it’s opened to the public a handful of times a year, while the Friends of Crystal Palace Subway work to preserve it for the local community.
