5 places to drink like a local in Seattle
1) The 5 Point Cafe
The neon sign in the window says ‘We cheat tourists-n-drunks since 1929’ – which doesn’t feel particularly welcoming, but once you read the lengthy history of The 5 Point on their website, you’ll be too intrigued not to venture in to see for yourself. One of the longest family-run spots in Seattle, you can stop in any time of day, as they’re open 24 hours/day.
2) Hattie’s Hat
Brunch at Hattie’s Hat is something of a rite of passage for Seattle transplants as they adapt to the Seattle scene and get acquainted with local legends. Stepping inside feels like you’ve moved backwards in time. The giant bar looks like it hasn’t changed in decades (it probably hasn’t). The bloody mary's are on point, the portions are hearty and the neon “cocktails” sign should be on your photo safari list.

3) Wedgwood Ale House & Cafe
No uppity big-city bar vibes to see here. Wedgwood Ale House has friendly staff and a rotating cast of regulars that make you feel like you’re on an 80s sitcom set. There are three different parts of the business, including the main pub, speakeasy, and cafe (for family dining). This speakeasy hosts the pool table and the coziest winter vibe and it’s even available for private rental.
4) Sully's Snowgoose Saloon
This tiny bar perched atop Phinney Ridge is quaintly decorated and cozy-as-all-getout in the dark winter months with a fireplace patrons can sit close to. Many locally produced beers are available on tap, and you’ll find plenty of regulars posted up to watch one Seattle sports game or another on the few TVs above the bar area.
5) Targy's Tavern
Spend some time walking around Upper Queen Anne ahead of your visit to Targy’s, and you’ll be even more jolted by the casual, old school vibe of this bar. Founded in 1937, Targy’s has a giant U-shaped bar around which all manner of locals, young and old, gather. Stop in for Bingo on Tuesdays or Trivia on Wednesdays.
